The idea for the Veterans Healing Farm sculpture originated from a NAVY tattoo steeped in maritime tradition: a sailor received a barn swallow tattoo to mark 5,000 nautical miles traveled and symbolized a safe return home. The barn swallow was chosen because it is a migratory bird that always returns to its nesting grounds, making it a natural emblem of loyalty, hope, and homecoming. The sculpture, titled "Coming Home," will be 15-foot tall and welded in steel and bronze In the video, behind the sculpture on the left, there is a yellow pole installed. This pole marks the location where the sculpture will live and represents the 15-foot-tall height the sculpture will be.
I have a deep love and respect for our military, and when I learned about the Veterans Healing Farm and the work they are doing to help veterans living with PTSD and other mental health challenges through nontraditional approaches and what they grow on the farm, I felt a connection to their mission.
I know what it means to find healing through creating. Art has been a powerful part of my own journey through PTSD and other mental health challenges. Creating gave me a place to put what I carried inside of me and allowed me to transform it into something I could see, touch, and understand. It was for this connection that I decided to create something for the Veterans Healing Farm.
I have dedicated one year of my craftsmanship to create a one-of-a-kind handcrafted metal sculpture for the farm. I am also covering the materials, transportation, and installation so the farm can receive the sculpture without having to bear any cost.
I can't do every part of this alone. I'm inviting you to help me bring this gift to the Veterans Healing Farm.
