In both processes a sculpture is made, however in welding art the sculpture is made by adding material and in sculpting art the sculpture is made by both adding and removing material. There is no stock material removed in welding art.

Another type of creating metal art is plasma cutting. There's very little, if any, welding and the sculpture is created by cutting shapes from metal.
